In The Phantom Menace, the Multi-Troop Transport rumbles across the grasslands of Naboo during the Trade Federation invasion, its bulbous front opening to release rack after rack of battle droids. It later turns up again in The Clone Wars. Nobody would call the MTT graceful, but its heavy, rounded shape is unmistakable, and that is exactly what a small model needs. This set sums up the transport in a compact form that still reads clearly as the Separatist troop carrier.

Numbers and scale

The model is built from 51 pieces, including 26 different elements. With roughly half the parts unique, the short build has enough variety to stay interesting from start to finish. There are no minifigures in the set, so if you want battle droids spilling out of the front you will need to borrow them from elsewhere. Children can manage the build without help, and the finished transport is small enough to push around the table or tuck onto a shelf.

A cooler colour scheme

Light bluish grey tops the colour list, followed by dark blue, dark bluish grey and black. Dark blue is not a common sight in small Star Wars sets, and it gives the model a cooler tone than the white Republic and Rebel ships that dominate this size class. When the model is eventually taken apart, those dark blue parts are a welcome addition to any collection, useful for machinery, vehicles or buildings that need a break from plain grey.
