Description

From game to bricks

Unlike most Star Wars ships, the TIE Defender did not start life on the big screen. It was introduced in the PC game TIE Fighter in 1994 and later appeared in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Its design takes the familiar TIE formula and adds a twist: three wings arranged around the central cockpit instead of two. For collectors who enjoy the wider Star Wars universe beyond the films, it is a welcome and unusual addition to an Imperial fleet.

A repetitive build, in a good way

The 304 pieces use only 63 different part designs, a low ratio that reflects the model's symmetry. Each of the three wings is built in the same way, so you repeat sequences rather than learning new techniques at every step. That makes the build calm and approachable, especially for younger builders. It also means you end up with multiples of the same elements, which tends to be more useful for your own creations than a scattering of one-off parts.

Palette and figures

Light and dark bluish grey make up most of the fighter, with black for panels and details and blue as the fourth main colour. That touch of blue is a little unexpected on an Imperial craft and lifts an otherwise sober design. Two minifigures are included, enough for a pilot and one more figure for small scenes. On display, the Defender stands out among other TIE models because its three-wing silhouette is so easy to spot.
