TIE stands for twin ion engines, and the fighter is as stripped-down as its name suggests. It has no shields and no hyperdrive, relying instead on speed and sheer numbers. The Empire launches them in swarms, and they appear throughout the original trilogy, from the escape from the Death Star in A New Hope onwards. Their howling engine noise is one of the most recognisable sounds in the saga, and their silhouette is just as familiar.

The TIE fighter seats a single pilot, but this set includes four minifigures.
