About Bionicle

From Mata Nui to Okoto

The line began in 2001 on the island of Mata Nui, where six Toa arrived to defend its inhabitants against Makuta. Over the following years the story moved to new locations and introduced new heroes and villains, told through comics, novels, online games and animated films. The original saga came to an end in 2010. A rebooted version set on the island of Okoto followed in 2015 and 2016, which closes the theme's run in the catalogue.

Building with a different vocabulary

Unlike most themes, Bionicle relies on Technic pins, axles, ball joints and shaped armour rather than stacked bricks. Most releases are single figures, which makes the larger boxes stand out. The biggest set filed directly under the theme is Skopio XV-1 (8996-1) from 2009 at 848 pieces, followed by The Ultimate Bionicle Set (8711-1, 2004, 702 pieces) and Axalara T9 (8943-1, 2008, 693 pieces).
