About Educational and Dacta

Made for groups, not individuals

Classroom sets are designed so that several children can build at once. That usually means large assortments of bricks and special elements in sturdy storage boxes, often with lesson plans or building cards for teachers. The educational range was branded Dacta during the 1990s and later became Education. Its subjects run from free building and early maths to mechanics, engineering and, more recently, coding.

Big kits at the top

The LearnToLearn Core set (45120-1) from 2014 is the largest with 2,018 pieces, followed by the Community Starter Set (9389-1) from 2012 with 1,907. The Technology Resource Set (9609-1) from 1995 has 1,730 pieces and focuses on gears, axles and mechanisms. Creator Community Builders comes in two sizes from 2004: 9302-1 with 1,690 pieces and 9303-1 with 1,190. Further down are the Sceneries Set (9385-1, 1,231 pieces), the LEC Set (9691-1, 1,213 pieces) and The Panama Canal (2000451-1, 1,184 pieces). Kits of this size are meant to be shared by a whole class, which is why they contain far more basic bricks than a typical retail set.
