About Monkie Kid
A legend retold
The story follows MK, a young noodle delivery boy in the city of Megapolis who inherits the powers of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. Together with friends and allies he faces demons and villains borrowed from the original tale. An animated series accompanied the sets, which helped younger fans follow the plot from wave to wave. The theme blends traditional motifs – temples, dragons, celestial palaces – with vehicles, gadgets and brightly coloured city streets. Unlike most licensed themes, the characters and story were created specifically for this range.
Towering mechs
Mechs are a recurring feature. The Monkey King Warrior Mech (80012-1) arrived with the first wave in 2020 at 1,635 pieces, and the Monkey King Ultra Mech (80045-1) followed in 2023 with 1,715 pieces. Both are poseable and tall enough to dominate a shelf. The team's base, Monkie Kid's Team Secret HQ (80013-1, 1,967 pieces), also appeared in the launch year. Their size and colour scheme make them a good entry point if you are new to the theme and want one striking model rather than a whole city.
The largest landscapes
In later years the sets grew into ambitious scenery. The Heavenly Realms (80039-1, 2022) leads with 2,438 pieces, followed by Dragon of the East Palace (80049-1, 2023) at 2,371 and Megapolis City 5th Anniversary (80054-1, 2024) at 2,330. The City of Lanterns (80036-1, 2,187 pieces) and The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain (80024-1, 1,949 pieces) complete the group of large builds.
