Speed over firepower

In Return of the Jedi, A-wings join the Rebel fleet for the assault on the second Death Star above Endor. Their wedge shape and powerful engines make them the fastest fighters in the Alliance, trading armour and heavy weapons for sheer speed. The type also appears in later animated series such as Rebels.
