About FIRST LEGO League

How the competition works

Teams of young people design, build and program a robot that tackles a series of missions on a competition table. The missions change every year and follow a season theme, from food safety to water to energy. To make the table identical for every team, each season has a Challenge Kit containing all the mission models. The robot has to push, lift, collect or trigger these models within a fixed time, so they are built to take repeated handling. Beyond the season kits, the theme also includes smaller sets connected to the competition, which is why it reaches 135 entries.
